About the Band

Anchor 1
The twelve strong ukulele collective began playing together 10 years ago and have a collection of over 120 unusual ukuleles.  They enjoy nothing more than playing at festivals and drinking gin!

Having all met in a haunted, crooked and damp pub in the centre of York many years ago, to kill some time and play some tunes, things quickly progressed onto performing Waggon Wheel in waistcoats!

Gigs started to appear, rehearsals got serious and the boss got bossier.

Our debut single was released in 2014 but so much has happened since that time no-one can remember the name of it!

One scorching summer we recorded our Christmas album 'On a Christmas Morning' on what was literally the hottest July day on record.  We haven't looked back since.

Summer 2016 was an interesting one for the group as we were asked to feature in a Toyota advert which in turn led to a commissioned single 'Summer Rain' for Toyota.  By then we were on a roll , that summer we also released an album full of rock classics called 'Head Out on the Highway', appeared in several festivals and stepped it up another gear.

We then were involved in the opening of the Tour de France Grand Depart at Leeds Arena, courtesy of our talented friends Hope & Social.  No biggie - just performing live on ITV to an arena of 13,500 and millions around the globe!

This soon led onto warming up for Ward Thomas, The Shires, Ralph McTell, Newton Faulkner and Hope & Social.  So we’ve kept ourselves busy and hopefully are challenging the general perception of ukuleles, one gig at a time.

For the last six years we’ve sold out at The Great Yorkshire Fringe, had more than a hat trick at Chris Evans' Carfest (South, North, North)  in aid of BBC Children in Need, headlined at the inaugural Selby Arts Festival,  and were thrilled to perform at The Cavern Club for George Harrison's 75th Birthday celebrations.

Having strutted our stuff in all sorts of venues - giant circus tents, opera houses, theatres, festivals, a radio caravan, a roundhouse, BBC Radio and in a basement filled with burlesque ladies (and a man) - there is nowhere we won’t play in order to spread the love!

In winter 2017 we released our single, 'Rockstar', along with an "amazing lip-sync video" (Minster FM).  We've been astonished by the social media response to this video and off the back of it released out latest album, 'Without The Tassels' which was released at The Great Yorkshire Fringe 2018.

2019 held some exciting memories for us - and we celebrated with a to-be-weds (now wed!), performed at festivals, charity events and corporate do's, the races and supported the world's best ukulele player, Jake Shimbukuro on this UK tour in our own County!

2020 and the Covid epidemic lent us some spare time to record (isolated in several homes) our latest EP, Bad Guy - a cover of the Billie Eilish song.  Not wanting to do the normal EP it got released as a cover and as a dance remix with Will Gurrey.  We then went one extra step with Will and released it as a 8-D remix, with two headphones on it literally bounces around your head!!!

Back to 2022 and we're doing a handful of gigs (to warm us up after such a long time away) and in July we go back to Carfest and we can't wait!!!! See you on the road....
